Thinking of opting out of the mainstream distillates like whiskey and vodka? This modern manual of distilling moonshine provides information—history, process, equipment, regulations, resources—and some case histories of distillers who’ve been producing moonshine.
Modern Moonshine Techniques eBook Bill Owens
The book numbers 93 pages, but if you exclude appendices, question and answer sections, and non-technical drawings of stills, the number drops to 50. The book focuses on beginning a micro-distillery to produce moonshine. Some of the information could be used for the home hobbyist, but most of the recipes and equipment were designed for someone making very large batches of 'shine.Perhaps the best thing about the book was the simple instructions for building necessary auxiliary equipment (not the still), including where to buy the components and supplies. But the book is non-technical, and much of the content that the author brushes over is not worth reading, because you will need to pick up a more technical book and read that if your intentions are really to start a micro-distillery. In the end, I think this book had a good concept- go through the steps needed to get into the business of making legal moonshine, while leaving the technical distilling aspects for another book. But once the 20 pages of useful information was written, a lot of pulp was thrown in to justify this being a book and not a pamphlet.

Modern Moonshine Techniques eBook Bill Owens Reviews
I bought this for my husband for his birthday and he was thrilled with it and hopes to use it to help him make a still for distilling essential oils.
It does fill in some gaps, but it is largely selling other books by the author. I am not impressed.
too brief. not enough details. no good pics, just old sketches that looked at least 100 years old. didn't learn very much from this book.
Great book for the novice, very easy to read and matter of fact. Explains the history of moonshine making, it's legality and illegality, and basic recipes. Very interesting read, even if you are not sure if you want to get into the business of distilling..
I bought this book expecting to find "modern moonshine techniques." Instead I found very brief description of old moonshine techniques and recipes. There are bad drawings throughout the book just trying to fill in space. The Q&A sections also help fill in otherwise empty pages. Definitely not what the title advertised. Totally disappointed, especially for a book from the American Distilling Institute. You can definitely find way more information just surfing the internet.
It's a great book if your looking to start a home brewery, but as for moonshine useless. It does have one very bad still design in the back, and two formulas for legal made shine ( you have to get stuff from a brewery supply shop ) + the author stuffed it with time wasting filler to make the book bigger. Save your money and search the net
GREAT beginner book and it contains an EXCELLENT list of books on the subject!!!......It will forever be on my library shelf!!!
